PRODUCTS 351. CHRONICLES OF ELDER SADDASAÑÑAKA In the past, I was a wild animal hunter in the jungle. There, I saw the Fully Enlightened One surrounded by the assembly of gods. While He was proclaiming the Four Truths (and) addressing the crowds, I listened to sweet words like the song of the karavīka bird . Having made my mind pure in faith in the echoes of the Brahma's voice of the Wise Sikhī, the relative of the world, I attained the cessation of taints. Since I had done that thirty-one kalpas ago, I have known no suffering; This is the fruit of pure faith. Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberation, and six superior wisdom have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha. Venerable Venerable Saddasaññaka[50] spoke these verses like that. The record of the elder Saddasaññaka is the first part. –OoOoo– 352. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER YAVAKALĀPIYA At that time, I was a barley grower in the city of Aruṇavatī. After seeing the Fully Enlightened One on the road, I spread out a bundle of barley straw. Knowing my intentions, the compassionate one, the Compassionate One, the great Leader of the Sikhī world, sat down on the barley straw mat. After seeing the Immaculate Conception, the great meditator, the Guide, sat down, having aroused excitement, there I died. Since I had done that thirty-one kalpas ago, I have known no suffering; this is the fruit of the barley straw matting. Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberation, and six superior wisdom have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha. The Venerable Elder Yavakalāpiya[51] spoke these verses like that. The record of the elder Yavakalāpiya is the second part. –OoOoo– 353. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER KIṂSUKAPŪJAKA After seeing the kiṃsuka tree in full bloom, I put my hands together. After meditating on Buddha Siddhattha, I made offerings in the air. (Since) I have offered flowers ninety-four kalpas ago, I no longer know suffering; this is the fruit of making offerings to the Buddha. Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching. The Venerable Thera Kiṃsukapūjaka[52] uttered these verses thus. The record of the elder Kiṃsukapūjaka is the third part. –OoOoo– 354. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER SAKOṬAKAKORAṆḌADĀYAKA And after seeing the passing footprints of my kinsman of the Sikhī world, I put on a goatskin over one shoulder and paid homage to the supreme footprint. After seeing the koraṇḍa , a herb that grows on earth, bloomed, I plucked a bunch and made an offering at the wheel-shaped footprint. Since I had done that thirty-one kalpas ago, I have known no suffering; this is the fruit of the offering of footprints. Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching. The Venerable Sakoṭakakoraṇḍadāyaka[53] spoke these verses thus. The record of the elder Sakoṭakakoraṇḍadāyaka is the fourth part. –OoOoo– 355. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER DAṆḌADĀYAKA At that time, I went deep into the wild forest and cut down a bamboo tree. After taking the crossbar, I made an offering to the Congregation. Because of that purity of mind in my heart, I paid homage to those who practiced well. I also offered the crossbar, and went away, facing north. Since I have offered the staff ninety-four kalpas ago, I have no longer known suffering; this is the fruit of the offering of the staff. Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching. The Venerable Thera Daṇḍadāyaka[54] uttered these verses thus. The record of the elder Daṇḍadāyaka is the fifth part. –OoOoo– 356. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER AMBAYĀGUDĀYAKA The Enlightened One named Sataraṃsī, the Self-Controlling One, the one who is not defeated, after coming out of samadhi, came to me for alms. After seeing a Paccekabuddha with a pure mind, I offered him mango porridge with a pure mind. Since I did it 94 kalpas ago, I no longer know suffering; this is the fruit of mango porridge. Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching. The Venerable Elder Ambayāgudāyaka[55] uttered these verses thus. The record of the elder Ambayāgudāyaka is the sixth part. –OoOoo– 357. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER SUPUṬAKAPŪJAKA The World Leader Vipassī, while leaving his daytime rest, while going about on alms round, He came near to my place. Because of that, being happy, with a joyful mind, I offered such a beautiful saltbox to the supreme Buddha, (and) I rejoiced in heaven for a lifetime. (Since) I offered the beautiful box ninety-one kalpas ago, I no longer know suffering; this is the treasure of the box. Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching. The Venerable Venerable Supuṭakapūjaka[56] spoke these verses thus. The record of the elder Supuṭakapūjaka is the seventh part. –OoOoo– 358. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER MAÑCADĀYAKA Because of my faith, I personally offered a bed to the Blessed One Vipassī, such a worldly Elder. I have attained the elephant transport, the horse transport, the heavenly transport. Through the offering of that small bed, I attained the cessation of defilements. Since I have offered the bed ninety-one kalpas ago, I have known no suffering; this is the fruit of the offering of the bed. Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching. The Venerable Elder Mañcadāyaka[57] spoke these verses thus. The record of the elder Mañcadāyaka is the eighth part. –OoOoo– 359. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER SARAṆAGAMANIYA At that time, I was a naked ascetic. The bhikkhu and I got into the boat. While the boat was sinking, the bhikkhu gave me refuge. (Since) he gave me refuge thirty-one kalpas ago, I no longer know the suffering; this is the fruit of going for refuge. Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberation, and six superior wisdom have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha. The Venerable Elder Saraṇagamaniya[58] spoke these verses like that. The record of the elder Saraṇagamaniya is the ninth part. –OoOoo– 360. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER PIṆḌAPĀTIKA At that time, the Fully Enlightened One named Tissa was living in a great forest. After he came back from the heaven of Dat Sut himself, I offered food. After paying homage to the great All-Enlightened One named Tissa, having made my mind pure, I went to the Dat Sutta heaven. Since I have made almsgiving ninety-two kalpas ago, I have not known suffering; this is the fruit of the real thing. Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberation, and six superior wisdom have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha. Venerable Venerable Piṇḍapātika[59] uttered these verses thus.
