CHRONICLES OF ELDER ATICHATTIYA When the World-Honored One, the Supreme Being, Atthadass passed away, passed away, I made the canopy cover the upper floor and offered it to the stupa. I have gone to and paid homage to the Guru's stupa many times. I made a flower canopy and I placed it above the canopy. I ruled the Heavenly Kingdom (before) one thousand seven hundred kalpas, I did not go to the human being; this is the fruit of making offerings to the stupa. Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching. Venerable Venerable Atichattiya[18] spoke these verses like that. The record of the elder Atichattiya is the first part. –OoOoo– 142. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER THAMBHĀROPAKA When the Protector of the World, the Human-Buddha Dhammadass, passed into Nirvana, I erected a flagpole at the stupa of the supreme Buddha. After creating the stairs, I ascended to the ultimate stupa. I took the jasmine flower and offered it at the stupa. Oh Buddha! Oh Dharma! O achievement of our Guru! I no longer know suffering; this is the fruit of making offerings to the stupa. Ninety-four kalpas ago, sixteen kings named Thūpasikkhara were Wheel-turners of great power. Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching. The Venerable thera Thambhāropaka[19] said these verses like that. The record of the elder Thambhāropaka is the second part. –OoOoo– 143. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER VEDIKĀRAKA When the Supreme Protector of the World Piyadass passed Nirvana, with a pure mind, with a joyful mind, I made a pearl hedge. After strewing around with manifold gems, I made the perfect hedge. After performing the festival at the fence, I ended up staying there. Wherever I go to be reborn, whether I am a God or a human being, there are people who hold mani pearls in the air; this is the fruit of good karma. One thousand six hundred kalpas ago, thirty-two kings named Maṇippabhā were wheel-turning Kings of great power. Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching. Venerable Venerable Vedikāraka[20] spoke these verses like that. The record of the elder Vedikāraka is the third part. –OoOoo– 144. CHRONICLES OF ELDER SAPARIVĀRIYA The Conqueror named Padumuttara, the World's Most High, the Human Bull, the Fully Enlightened One, after igniting like a mass of fire, passed away Nirvana. And when the Great Hero entered Nirvana, there was a spacious stupa. People are on duty day and night in the supreme noble sharra. With a pure mind, with a joyful mind, I made a barricade of agarwood. And then, smoke matching the stupa was seen. While being reborn in the realm of existence, whether in my divine or human nature, I do not see any inferiority; this is the fruit of good karma. Fifteen kalpas ago, there were eight (kings), all of them (with the same name) Samatta, who were wheel-turners of great power. Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching. The Venerable Elder Saparivāriya[21] said these verses like that. The record of the elder Saparivāriya is the fourth part. –OoOoo– 145. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER UMMĀPUPPHIYA When the World-Honored One Siddhattha, the Protector of the World, the recipient of the offerings had passed into Nirvana, there was a festival at the great stupa. While the festival for the Great Hermit Siddhattha was underway, I took the ummā flower and offered it to the stupa. (Since) I offered the flower ninety-four kalpas ago, I no longer know suffering; this is the fruit of making offerings to the stupa. And before in the ninth incarnation, eighty-five (same) kings named Somadeva were mighty mighty Wheel-turning Kings. Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching. The Venerable Elder Ummāpupphiya[22] spoke these verses thus. The record of the elder Ummāpupphiya is the fifth part. –OoOoo– 146. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER ANULEPADĀYAKA I have made the barricade at the Bodhi tree of the sage Anomadassī. I have offered lime blocks and have done the plastering work. Having seen this skillfully performed deed, the Supreme Being, Anomadassī, the Master, standing in the Order of Bhikkhus uttered these verses: “ By doing this lime and by the aspirational powers of volition, (this person) will enjoy attainment and will end suffering .” I have a calm face, attentive, well-composed. I maintain my last life in the Dharma of the Fully Enlightened One. A hundred kalpas ago, without any shortage, (I was) a king named Sabbaghana, a Wheel-turning King of great power. Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching. The Venerable Elder Anulepadāyaka[23] spoke these verses thus. The record of the elder Anulepadāyaka is the sixth part. –OoOoo– 147. RECORDS OF ELDER MAGGADĀYAKA The Righteous One crossed a small river and entered the forest. I have seen the Fully Enlightened Siddhattha with these thirty-two marks. I took the shovel and the basket and leveled the road. I have bowed down to the Guru and have purified my mind. Since I have done that work ninety-four kalpas ago, I have no longer known suffering; this is the fruit of the offering of the path. (Formerly) fifty-seven lives, I was the sole ruler of the people by the name of Suppabuddha; That leader is the lord of mankind. Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching. The Venerable Maggadāyaka uttered these verses thus. The record of the elder Maggadāyaka is the seventh part. –OoOoo– 148. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER PHALAKADĀYAKA In the past, I was a skilled boat builder who was well trained in carpentry. I made a plank of agarwood and made an offering to the relative of the world. This well-rendered golden palace shines brightly. The means of transport by elephants, vehicles of horses, vehicles of heaven are available. The castles and the palanquins were born as desired, my treasures were not impaired; This is the fruit of the wooden plank. (Since) I have offered the wooden plank ninety-one kalpas ago, I no longer know suffering; This is the fruit of the wooden plank. Fifty-seven kalpas ago, four (with the same) name Nimmita were Wheel-turning Kings who attained the seven kinds of treasures and possessed great power. Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching. The venerable thera Phalakadāyaka said these verses thus. The record of the elder Phalakadāyaka is the eighth part. –OoOoo– 149. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER VAṬAṂSAKIYA The undefeated One named Sumedha, while practicing solitude, went deep into the great forest. After seeing the salala tree in full bloom, I tied it into a garland for my head. I offered it to the Buddha by placing it in front of the World Leader. (Since) I have offered the flower thirty thousand aeons ago, I no longer know suffering; this is the fruit of making offerings to the Buddha. (Previously) one thousand nine hundred kalpas, sixteen (same) Nimmita were the Wheel-turning Kings who had accomplished the seven kinds of treasures and possessed great power. Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberation, and six superior wisdom have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha. Venerable Venerable Vaṭaṃsakiya[24] uttered these verses like that. The record of the elder Vaṭaṃsakiya is the ninth part. –OoOoo– 150. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER PALLAṄKADĀYAKA I have offered such an armchair with a canopy above it to the Blessed One Sumedha, the Worldly Elder. At that time, that armchair full of seven kinds of jewels always arose for me, just as I intended. Since I offered the armchair thirty thousand aeons ago, I no longer know suffering; this is the fruit of the armchair. (In the past) twenty thousand kalpas, three people (with the same name) Suvaṇṇābha (was) the Wheel-turning Kings achieved the seven kinds of treasures and possessed great power. Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberation, and six superior wisdom have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha. Venerable Venerable Pallaṅkadāyaka[25] uttered these verses like that. The record of the elder Pallaṅkadāyaka is the tenth part. –OoOoo– SUMMARY The umbrella, the pillar (lamp), the fence around, the person with a group of followers, the person related to the umma flower , the plaster, the way offering, the wooden plank, the garland of flowers. head, the offering of an armchair; (total) fifty-six verses have been narrated.
