THE PRODUCT OF BUDDHA - 1
1. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER SĀRIPUTTA
Not far from the Himalayas there is a mountain called Lambaka, there is my well-built hermitage, there is a well-built large leaf house.
Not far from my retreat is a small river with a sloping bank and a beautiful shallow beach covered with extremely clean, pleasing sand.
The little river that flows through there, without sand, without deep pits, (with water) sweet, without unpleasant odors, adorning my hermitage becomes brilliant.
There is a small river in that place, and there are kumbhīla crocodiles , swordfish, suṃsumāra crocodiles and turtles prowling in this place which are adorning my hermitage with splendor.
There are fish such as pāṭhīna , pāvusa fish , valaja fish , muñja fish , rohita fish , maggura fish crossing the current, they adorn my hermitage with splendor.
On either side of the river, there are trees in bloom, bearing fruit from both sides, which adorn my hermitage with splendor.
There are mango trees , sālā trees, tilaka trees, pāṭalī trees , sinduvāraka trees that give off the heavenly fragrance in full bloom in my hermitage.
There are campaka trees, salala trees, nīpa trees, nāga trees, laurel trees, wild pineapples that emit heavenly fragrances that are in full bloom in my retreat.
There are atimutta , asoka , and bhaginimālā trees in full bloom, and aṅkola and bimbijāla trees in full bloom in my retreat.
There are wild coconut trees, and also kandalī trees , godhuka trees , and tiṇasūlika bushes that give off the heavenly fragrance that are adorning my retreat in splendor.
There are many kaṇikāra trees, kaṇṇika trees, asana trees , and ajjuna trees emitting the heavenly fragrance that are adorning my retreat to shine.
There are laurel trees, mountain laurel trees, and koviḷāra trees in full bloom, emitting the heavenly fragrance that are adorning my hermitage with splendor.
There are many dandelions , kuṭaja trees, kadamba trees, and vakula trees that emit heavenly fragrances that are adorning my hermitage with splendor.
The āḷaka trees , the isimugga trees , the banana trees, and the lemon trees are grown by the fragrant water, which is laden with fruit.
Some pink lotus flowers bloom, others have pistils, others have withered; Pink lotus flowers are always in full bloom in the lake.
Crowded with siṅghāṭaka leaves , the figurative pink lotuses with lotus roots are always resplendent in the lake.
Brought, ambagandhī trees, uttāla trees , bandhujīvaka trees emitting the heavenly fragrance are always in full bloom in the lake.
The pāṭhīna fish , the pāvusa fish, the valaja fish, the muñja fish , the rohita fish, the aṅgula fish , and the maṅgura fish always live in the lake.
The crocodiles of the kumbhīla , the suṃsumāra , the tantigāhas , the demons, the snakes, and the pythons always lived in the lake.
The pigeons, the wild geese, the red geese, the creatures that live in the river, the cuckoos, the parrots, the starlings depend on that lake.
The kukutthaka birds, the kulīraka birds, the forest pokkharasātaka birds, the lark birds, and the suvapota birds depend on that lake.
Swans, storks, peacocks, cuckoos, wildfowl, pampakas , and jīvaṃjīva birds live in that lake.
Many species of birds (inland) such as owls, woodpeckers, kuraras , hawks, and mahākāla birds live in the lake.
Many deer, wild boar, wolves, jackals, deer, and suggapota animals depend on the lake.
The lions, the tigers, the leopards, the bears, the wolves, the hyenas, and the mātaṅga (up to age) elephants were abstinent in the three places where they depended on the lake.
The species of ostrich include monkeys, and there are also woodworkers, servants, and even hunters who depend on the lake.
Not far from my retreat, there are tinduka trees, piyāla trees , licorice trees, and kāsumārī trees that regularly bear fruit.
Not far from my retreat, there are kosumbha trees, salala trees, and sweet- fruited nīpa trees that are regularly laden with fruit.
The harītaka trees, the āmalaka trees, the mango trees, the red plum trees, the vibhīṭaka trees, the apple trees, the bhallātaka trees, and the billa trees, they are full of fruit.
In my hermitage there are many varieties (root roots) such as āluva roots , kalamba roots, biḷālī roots , takkaḷa roots , jīvaka roots , and sutaka bulbs as well.
Not far from my retreat there were well-established lakes, some with clear water, some with cool water, with beautiful shallow wharfs to please.
There is a heavenly fragrance emanating from (the lake) covered with pink lotuses, blue lotuses, combined with white lotuses, covered with mandalas.
At that time, I lived in a lovely and well-built hermitage in a forest that was blossoming, bearing fruit, having all such elements.
(I) am an ascetic named Surucī who is virtuous, accomplished in his duties, has attained jhāna, is always satisfied with meditation, has attained the power of the five supreme wisdoms.
Twenty-four thousand students have served me. All these are Brahmins, of (noble) lineage, of fame.
They have attained perfection in appearance, in tradition including writing and ritual, in vocabulary, in grammar, and in doctrine (of the Brahmins).
My students are well-educated, and well-versed in natural phenomena, omens, appearances, geography, earth, and space.
As people who are less demanding, careful, (longevity) a little food, not greedy, content with having or not having, these people are always at my service.
Beings of wisdom, meditative attainments, delighting in meditation, pure in mind, centered, not longing for anything, you are always at my side.
As wise men who have attained perfection in their superintendences, delighting in their practice, having travel in the air, you are always at my service.
They are intellectuals restrained in the six sense doors, free from desire, protected by senses, and free from attachment; My students are hard to reach.
They spent the night sitting down in the full lotus position, with standing and walking walking; My students are hard to reach.
You are not attached to what tempts, do not get angry with what provokes, do not be enamored with what fascinates; My students are hard to reach.
While testing them, they frequently performed miracles, they shook the earth; by hard-to-reach opposition.
And while entertaining, those students entertained themselves with the game of meditation, which brought fruit from the red plum tree; My students are hard to reach.
Others went to Tay Niu Hoa Chau, others to Dongsheng Than Chau, and still others to Bac Cu Lu Chau, by searching difficult to reach.
They moved the bag of supplies at the front and went up right behind, the sky was covered by twenty-four thousand.
Some use the food of fallen fruit, some cooked with fire, some without fire (eaten raw), some with teeth, and also with a mortar, some crushed with stone.
Some taste the cleansing (sin) by wading into the water light and dark, some perform the sprinkling of water (on the body); My students are hard to reach.
(Some) have hair on their armpits and long fingernails, have dirty teeth, have dusty heads, and are perfumed with the fragrance of virtue; My students are hard to reach.
Early in the morning, the braided-haired ascetics of the highest austerity, having gathered together, spoke of success and failure, and departed in the air.
While these were gone, there was a tumultuous noise caused by the sound of the goatskins, which delighted the gods.
There is movement in the air, the micro-hermits go this way or that. Supported by their powers, they departed as they wished.
It is all these beings who move in space who shake the earth, whose power is outstanding, difficult to subdue, like the undisturbed sea.
Some hermits have the practice of standing and walking, some have the practice of sitting, some have food that has been dropped; My students are hard to reach.
These beings abide in loving-kindness, seeking the benefit of all sentient beings. All of them do not praise themselves and do not despise anyone.
Fearless like a lion king, powerful like an elephant, unapproachable like a tiger, you come to me.
The masters of magic, the gods, the dragons, the gandharvas, and the demons, the evil spirits, the giants, the human birds, and the birds depended on that lake.
They carry buns and bags of supplies, have goatskin robes, move in the air, all live dependent on that lake.
These people always (behave) right, have mutual respect. Among the twenty-four thousand, the sound of blowing your nose did not occur.
While putting down step by step, you are skillfully restrained, there is little noise. After approaching, all of them bowed to me with their heads bowed.
Surrounded by those pure and ascetic students, I lived there, in a hermitage, having attained meditation, enjoying meditation.
The hermitage is scented with the fruity fragrance of fruiting trees and the two kinds of virtuous fragrances of hermits and the fragrance of flowers.
I do not know day and night, my hatred is not known. While instructing my students, I gained great joy.
While the flowers were in bloom and the fruits were bearing fruit, the heavenly fragrances emanating from my hermitage became resplendent.
At that time, being an enthusiastic and careful person, after coming out of samadhi, I took my bag of supplies and went deep into the forest.
At that time, I had learned well about appearances and also about the dream that was aroused, I maintained the spell being cast.
The World-Honored One, Anomadass, the World's Most High, the Human-Taurus, the Fully Enlightened One, had a desire to live alone, so he went to the Himalayas.
Having gone deep into the Himalayas, the great Compassionate One, the Wise One, the Supreme Being, folded his legs in the lotus position and sat down.
There, I saw the Perfectly Enlightened One with a pleasing radiance, like a lily lit up, like a sacrificial fire burning.
I have seen the World Leader who is like a lamp shining, like lightning in the sky, like a sāla tree that has blossomed.
This Noble One is the Great Hero, the Ender of Suffering, the Wise One. By seeing Him, all suffering is released.
After seeing the God of the gods, I considered the appearance: " Is it the Buddha or not the Buddha? Let us then observe the One with the Right Eye .”
Wheels with a thousand spokes are seen on the soles of the noble feet. After seeing his appearances, I have come to decide (He is) the Tathagata.
At that time, I took the broom and cleaned. Then I brought the flowers myself and made offerings to the supreme Buddha.
Having made offerings to the Perfectly Enlightened One, who had crossed the floodwaters and was no longer tainted, I put on a goatskin over one shoulder and bowed down to the World Leader (and said):
“ The Fully Enlightened One who has no taint or has settled with any wisdom, I will extoll that wisdom. Please listen to me.
O Lord, who has immeasurable progress, please save this world. After going to see him, the people crossed the waters of doubt .
The Supreme Being of mankind, he is the master, the banner, the symbol, the ultimate goal, the refuge, the support, and the lamp of all beings .
The Omniscient One, can measure the waters of the sea with a vessel, but cannot measure His wisdom .
The Omniscient One, can grasp the earth and place it on the scale, but cannot grasp his wisdom .
The Omniscient One, can measure the sky with a rope or with a finger, but cannot measure His wisdom .
(Buddha's wisdom) surpasses water in the ocean and solid land. Compared to the wisdom of the Buddha nothing is considered equivalent .
White-eyed One, in the world, there are also gods who have their minds to function, they all enter into the net of His wisdom .
O Omniscient One, by what wisdom you (have) attained complete supreme enlightenment, by that wisdom you (have) overpowered other pagan religions ."
After praising with these verses, that ascetic named Surucī spread out the goatskin on the ground and sat down.
It is said that the mountain lord (Neru) has sunk into the ocean of eighty-four thousand (do-weeks) and has risen by the same distance.
That Neru mountain had risen to that height in length and breadth. It was crushed into hundreds of thousands of koṭi small pieces.
“ The All-Knowing One, while grouped into groups of a hundred thousand these shards have come to an end, Your wisdom remains immeasurable .
If one fences around the water with a net with a small hole, any living beings in the water can fall into the net .
The Great Hero, just like that, those who are non-Buddhist ordinary people who are rushing to grasp wrong views have been deluded by attachment (to the web of wrong views) .
Due to His pure wisdom and unobstructed vision, those who have entered the net do not surpass His wisdom .”
At that time, the Blessed One, Anomadassī, the Conqueror of great fame, having emerged from meditation, observed the direction.
234. The Wise One of Anomadass named Nisabha was accompanied by one hundred thousand people with such a peaceful mind, who were the Unscrupulous ones, who were pure, had six winning positions, and had their certificates of meditation. After knowing the mind of the Buddha, he approached the World Leader.
At that place, standing in the air, they circumambulated, clasped their hands in homage, and then landed near the Buddha.
The Exalted One, Anomadasī, the World's Most High, the Human Bull, the Conqueror, sat down in the Assembly of Bhikkhus and revealed a smile.
The attendant of the All-Knowing Great Hermit, whose name was Varuṇa, having put on his robe over one shoulder, asked the World Leader, saying:
“ Venerable Sir, what is the cause of the Guru's smile? Because of the Buddhas, there's no reason why they don't show their smiles ."
The World-Honored One, Anomadas, the Great Elder of the world, the Human Bull, sat down in the midst of the Assembly and uttered this verse:
“ Whoever has offered Me flowers and has also praised (My) wisdom, I will praise him. Please listen to Me. ”
Realizing the Buddha's words, all the gods gathered. Having wished to hear the Dharma, they approached the Fully Enlightened One.
The gods have great divine power in all the worlds, and those who wish to hear the Dharma, they have come close to the Fully Enlightened One.
“ The elephants, the horses, the chariots, the soldiers, and the army of the four branches would regularly escort this man; this is the fruit of making offerings to the Buddha .
Sixty thousand musical instruments and decorated large drums will regularly serve this person; this is the fruit of making offerings to the Buddha .
Sixteen thousand women were adorned, adorned with colorful fabrics, and had pearls and manifold earrings.
With curled eyelashes, a smile, a graceful posture, a slim waist, the girls will often surround this person ; this is the fruit of making offerings to the Buddha.
This person will be happy in the world of gods for a hundred thousand kalpas, and will become a Wheel-turning-King of the kingdom a thousand times over .
And will be the Lord of the Gods who will rule over the Heavenly Kingdom a thousand times. The kingdom's territory was vast, incalculable .
Upon reaching the final life, this person will go to the human being. A brahmin woman named Sāriyā will carry a fetus (this one) .
This man will be known by his mother's family name, and will have sharp wisdom by the name of Sāriputta .
After leaving the eighty koṭi this person will leave home, no longer possessing anything. While seeking a peaceful position, this person will wander the earth .
Countless kalpas later, a Master named Gotama, of the lineage, of the Okkāka clan, will appear in the world .
As the heir to that (Buddha)'s Dhamma, orthodox, [1] created from the Dhamma, (this person) will become the foremost Disciple by the name of Sāriputta .
Originating from the Himalayas, this Bhāgīrathī river flows into the sea, satisfying the ocean .
Likewise, this Sāriputta, confident in the three Vedas, will attain perfection in wisdom, and will satisfy sentient beings .
Starting from the Himalayas to the sea and the ocean, the amount of sand in the middle is innumerable by counting .[2]
Although it is possible to calculate the entire amount of sand by counting, there will be no end to the wisdom of Sāriputta.
While being subsistence in small grain form, the sand of the river may be exhausted, but there will be no end in the wisdom of Sāriputta .
The waves of the sea are inestimable by counting, just as there is no end to the wisdom of Sāriputta .
This person will please the noble Sakya fully Enlightened Gotama, will come to intellectual perfection, and will become the foremost Sravaka .
While pouring rain of Dharma, this person will continue to properly operate the wheel of Dharma that was thus turned by the son of the Sakya lineage .
Having known all this, the noble Gotama of the Sakya order will sit down in the Order of Bhikkhus and will establish (this person) in the supreme position ."
Oh, well done by me to the Master Anomadasasī! After paying homage to him, I attained perfection in all respects.
The deeds done in countless eons (in the past) have allowed me to see the fruit here. Like the speed of a well-shot arrow, I have burned (mine) afflictions.
At that time, while searching for the uncontrived dharma Nirvana was the unshakable position, while considering all the non-Buddhist ways, I was reincarnated in the realm of existence.
Just as a sick person should seek a spiritual remedy, so should the whole forest be examined in order to get rid of the illness.
While searching for the uncreated Dharma, Nirvana, the state of Immortality, I ordained as a hermit for five hundred consecutive lives.
I have maintained a braided bun, have a goatskin robe, I have attained the perfection of the super-knowledges and have gone to the world of Brahma.
Except for the Dharma of the Conqueror, there is no purity in paganism. Indeed, any sentient being with enlightened wisdom becomes purified in the Conqueror's Dhamma.
This (pure) dharma is the creation of one's own actions, it is not a transmission. While searching for the uncreated Dharma, I wandered around in a bad place.
Like a person looking for a tree core, after cutting down a banana tree and splitting it in two, it is impossible to find the core there because the banana tree has no core.
In the same way, the non-Buddhists in the world and the multitude of people with different wrong views are the absence of Nirvana, just as the banana tree has no core.
When I reached the end of my life, I was already a relative of Pham Thien.[3] After renouncing great wealth, I went forth into the family life
(First Chant).
The Brahmin named Sañjaya is an instructor, well versed in mantras, knowledgeable about the three Vedas, and I live under his guidance.[4]
The Great Hero, the Brahmin named Assaji as His Voice, difficult to approach, with outstanding power, was at that time going for alms.
I have seen that sage, with wisdom, centered in clarity, with a pure mind, a Dragon Statue, like a skillfully blooming lotus,
After seeing a hero who was excellent, noble, well-trained, pure in mind, my mind arose: " Is this person an Arahant?
Is the amiable, well-mannered, well-mannered, restrained man, trained in the ultimate training, a seer of the Immortal?
Or should we ask about the ultimate goal with a joyful mind? If I ask him, he will answer. Then, let's ask again ."
While he was on his alms round, I went in the back waiting for an opportunity to ask about Immortal status.
When he came to the middle of the road, I approached him and asked him: " What is your family name, hero? Sir, who are you a student of? ”
When asked by me, he was like a lion without fear and answered, " Friend, the Buddha has appeared in the world, I am his student ."
“ Great hero, heir, one of great fame, what is the Dhamma and teaching of your Buddha? Sir, please explain in detail to me ."
When I asked him, he preached on the whole profound, subtle Path, which destroys the arrow of craving, has the dispelling of all suffering (like this):
" What dharmas have their source of origination, the Tathagata spoke of their cause and of their cessation, thus taught the great recluse ."
As soon as the question was answered, I have attained the first Fruition. After listening to the teachings of the Conqueror, I became free from dust, without dirt.
After listening to the words of the wise, after seeing the supreme Dharma, with the Dhamma penetrated, I uttered this verse:
" This is the Dhamma, if only this alone would have penetrated the painless Nirvana (the dharma) that had not been seen, passed away for thousands of lives ."
While searching for the Dharma, I wandered around in a bad place. (Now) that goal of mine has been achieved, I have no time for distraction.
I was delighted by the Assaji. After reaching Immovable status, while looking for a friend, I went to the hermitage.
After seeing me from afar, my friend, who was well-educated and accomplished in the four positions, said these words:
“ You have a calm face and eyes, it seems that the wise being has been seen by (you). Have you attained Immortality, Nirvana, eternal status?
It seems that you have (have) attained what is worthy of good and have been tempered, like an elephant that has been tamed in the taming stage. Are you, brahmin, at peace? ”
“ Immortality is the dispelling of the arrow of sorrow that I have attained. You too, realize it. Let's go to the Buddha ."
After replying: “ Good! “My friend who is well-educated took my hand in his hand and went to see you.
White son of the Sakya lineage, both of us will also become ordained in your testimony. After going to Your Dharma, we live free of filth.
Kolita is at the top in terms of miracles, and you have reached the other shore in terms of wisdom. It was the two of us who united to radiate the Dharma.
Having an unfulfilled wish, I've wandered around in a bad place. After going to see you, my wish was fulfilled.
Once established on the earth, the trees bloom in season. They give off heavenly fragrances and make all sentient beings happy.
White Great Hero, Sakya son of great fame, likewise, having established myself in Your Dharma, I seek the time to blossom.
While seeking the flower of liberation is the coming out of samsara in the realms, with the attainment of the flower of liberation, I make all sentient beings happy.
White-eyed One, to the extent of the Buddhas, there is nothing like the wisdom of his son except the Wise.
Tame in supreme taming, His well-trained disciples and well-learned Congregation accompanies Him at all times.
Being the wise, having attained meditation, enjoying meditation, having a pure mind, being centered, the sages who have achieved moral goodness always accompanies him.
Beings of wisdom, less demanding, careful, (longing) a little food, not greedy, content with having or not having, they always accompanied him.
As wise people who specialize in living in the forest, well versed in the dharma of shedding (the beginning of momentum), attaining meditation, wearing coarse robes, and enjoying solitude, they always accompany him.
As practitioners (four Paths) abiding in Fruition (Arahantship), and Trainees who have attained Fruition, the ultimate goal-seekers always accompanies him.
They are Stream-winners without blemish, they are the One-Returners, the Non-returners, and the Arahants who always accompany him.
Those Sravakas, many of whom were skilled in the dharmas of establishing mindfulness, were delighted in the cultivation of the factors leading to enlightenment, all of whom accompanied him at all times.
They were skilled in the foundations of supernatural powers, delighted in the practice of concentration, attached to right effort, always accompanying him.
They have the three wisdoms and the six superior wisdoms, have reached the perfection of psychic powers, have attained the perfection of wisdom, always accompanies him.
Bach, Dai Hung, such disciples of his were well-learned, difficult to approach, had outstanding power, always accompanied him.
Accompanied by such enthusiastic, restrained disciples, he was like (the lion) the king of animals without fear, like the (moon) king of the stars shining brightly.
Having established themselves on the earth, the herbs grow. They achieve growth and display fruit.
White son of the Sakya lineage of great fame, you are like the earth. Having established themselves in the Dharma, they attain the state of Immortality.
There are Sindhu rivers, including the Sarassatī River, the Candabhāgikā River, the Gaṅgā River, the Yamunā River, also the Sarabhū River, and the Mahī River.
As these rivers flowed and the sea took over, these rivers abandoned their former name and became known only as 'the sea'.
Likewise, these four castes, after ordination in His Holiness's testimony, they renounced their former name and became known as 'sons of the Buddha.'
Just as the moon, unblemished while moving through space, surpasses all the stellar populations of the world in light.
The Great Hero, just like that, is accompanied by gods and men, who transcends all these classes and shines at all times.
Raised from the depths, waves cannot cross the shore. All the waves that reach the shore, they disintegrate into bubbles.
Likewise, the heretics in the world and many people with different views intend to speak about the doctrine, they do not surpass Him as the Wise.
And, O One-Eye, if they see You, please respond. After going to him, those people became like bubbles
Just like the kumuda tree, the mandālaka tree , and many other plants that are born in water, they are tainted with water and mud.
In the same way, many sentient beings are born and raised in the world suffering from craving and anger like a kumuda tree in the mud.
Just like the lotus flower, which is born in water, grows up in the middle of water, it is not stained by water, even with its stamens, it is also clean.
White Great Hero, just like that, the Great Sage was born in the world, he is unstained by the world like a lotus flower is unstained by water.
Like many water-grown flowers that bloom in the month of Rammaka, they do not extend beyond that month, when it is time for flowering.
White son of the Sakya lineage, you have blossomed with liberation, just like them (also). Students do not go beyond the teachings like a lotus flower that is born in water (does not bloom late).
The sālā tree is well blossomed, giving off the fragrance of the heavens. Surrounded by other sālā trees, the sālā tree shines.
Bach Dai Hung, just like that You have blossomed with the wisdom of a Buddha. Accompanied by the Order of Bhikkhus, he shined like a sālā tree .
Just as the rocky Himalayas are the source of medicine for all beings, the abode of dragons, asuras, and gods.
Bach Dai Hung, similarly you are like a source of medicine for all sentient beings. They obtained three wisdoms, six superior wisdoms, and came to spiritual perfection (by relying on Him).
Bach Dai Hung, taught by him with compassion, they delight in the delights of the Dharma, they live according to his teaching.
Like the lion, the king of beasts, after leaving his abode he looked in the four directions and roared three times.
When the lord of beasts roared, all the animals were terrified. Because it has such a lineage, it always makes the animals tremble.
Bach Dai Hung, when he preached, the earth trembled, those who were able to attain enlightenment, the party of Ma Vuong trembled.
Great sage, when he preached the Dharma, all the heathens trembled, like a flock of crows and birds in flight, like wild beasts trembling with fear towards the lord of beasts.
Those who have them in the world are called 'masters.' They preach to the masses the doctrines that have been passed down sequentially.
Bach Dai Hung, however, he is not like that. He preached the Dharma to sentient beings after he had become self-enlightened about the Truths and all dharmas pertaining to enlightenment.
After knowing the revealed and latent temperaments, the strength and weakness of rights, after understanding the nature of having or not being able, His Holiness preached the Dharma which is like a heavy rain (screaming).
343. The crowd of different views, while pondering, can sit to the ends of the universe. In order to cut that doubt, the sage, skilled in comparison and contrast, after knowing the minds of all, cut off the doubts of sentient beings even while explaining a question.
The earth is filled by themselves as Upatissa (Sāriputta). It was all of them, hands clasped, who praised the World Leader.
While praising for a lifetime, they praised various virtues. They could not have been estimated, the Tathagatas are immeasurable.
Just as I praised the Conqueror with my might, while praising a koṭi (ten million) aeons they did the same.
If there is a Deva or someone well-trained who intends to measure (these virtues), he can only take on sorrow.
White son of the Sakya lineage of great fame, having established himself in your Dharma, having reached the perfection of wisdom, I live free from taints.
I completely overpower the non-Buddhists, I operate the Conqueror's Dharma. Today I am the Dharma General of the Sakya son's Dharma.
The work done in countless kalpas has shown me the fruit here. Like the speed of a well-shot arrow, I have burned (mine) afflictions.
If someone is able to carry heavy loads constantly overhead, he or she will suffer from heavy loads, just as I have to bear heavy loads.
While being consumed by the three flames, I transmigrated in the realms. I have endured the burden of being as I had to lift Mount Neru.
And the burden has been laid down by me, the beings have been destroyed by me, all that needs to be done in the Dharma of the Sakya son has been done.
Up to the realm of the Buddhas except for the Noble Sakya, I am the foremost in wisdom, no equal to me can be found.
Skilled in concentration, I have attained the perfection of psychic powers. And today while wishing I could transform into a thousand people.
Great Wise One, You have taught me the Dharma. You have the power for sequential abiding, cessation of concentration is your resting place.
My celestial eye is purified, I am skilled in concentration, engaged in right effort, delighting in the cultivation of the factors leading to enlightenment.
Because of what Dharma the Sravaka had to attain, the whole thing was done by me. Except for the Protector of the World, my equal cannot be found.
Skilled in entering samadhi, having rapid attainment of the liberating meditations, delighting in the cultivation of the factors leading to enlightenment, I have attained the perfection of the virtues of the Buddha. Thinh Van.
With the good virtue of the Sravaka, with the enlightened mind, out of reverence for the Supreme Being, with faith, (my) mind is always attached to the practices of the holy life.
As a venomous snake has been taken away, as a wild buffalo whose horns have been cut off, and whose pride and arrogance have been cast away, I approach the Congregation with great reverence.
If my wisdom were to have form then the earth could not be compared, this is the fruit of the praise of the wisdom of the Blessed One Anomadassī.
Thus I continue to operate properly the wheel of Dharma that was carried by the Sakya son; this is the fruit of praising wisdom.
At any time and in any place, may those with evil desires, indolence, poor diligence, uneducated, misbehaving do not approach me.
And may the one who hears much (widely studied), has insight, is well centered in the precepts, is associated with the stillness of mind standing (to me) even though it is (standing) on the head.
I say this to all of you that all the venerable ones have gathered here, don't have any evil desires, be content with yourselves (with what you have), have the attainments of meditation, always delight in your meditation. .
After seeing that shravaka named Assaji for the first time, I became free from dust, without dirt; That wise man is my teacher.
Thanks to the impact of that, I have now become the General of the Dharma. After attaining perfection in all respects, I live free of taints.
That Sravaka named Assaji was my teacher. In which direction he resides, I perform lying with his head turned (towards that direction).
After recalling my work, the Noble Gotama of the Sakyas sat down at the Order of Bhikkhus and established me in the supreme position.
My afflictions have been burned, all existences have been erased. After breaking the bondage as a male elephant (untied), I lived free of lust.
Indeed, I have succeeded perfectly, have attained the three wisdoms, have practiced the teachings of the Buddha in the present time of the supreme Buddha.
Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberations (four Paths and four Fruits), and six superior wisdom have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha.
The Venerable Sāriputta said these verses thus.
The record of the elder Sāriputta is the first part.
–OoOoo–
2. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER MAHĀMOGGALLĀNA
The Blessed One, Anomadass, the Chief Elder of the world, the Human Bull, dwelt at the Himalayas, the head of the assembly of gods.
At that time, I was the Dragon King named Varuṇa. I transformed into the body I wanted. I dwelt in the ocean.
After disbanding the entourage, I held a concert. At that time I accompanied the Perfectly Enlightened One and told the dragons to sing.
While the instruments (of the Dragon Palace) were being played, the gods were playing the instruments (of the heavens). The Buddha also heard the sound of both and was aware of it himself.
After inviting the Fully Enlightened One, I went to my palace. After making a seating arrangement, I asked to notify the time.
While illuminating all directions, the World Leader came to my palace, accompanied by a thousand impertinent beings.
At the time when the Great Hung, the God of the gods, the Human Niu, and the Order of Bhikkhus had sat down, then I had satisfied you with food and water.
The Great Hero, the Sovereign, the great man, after sitting down in the Order of Bhikkhus, uttered these verses:
“ Whoever has made offerings to the Buddha, the Leader of the World and the Congregation, with that faith in his heart, he will go to the world of gods .
He will rule over the Heavenly Kingdom seventy-seven times and will rule over eight hundred mainland kingdoms on the earth.
He will become a Wheel-turning One fifty-five times . During that time, incalculable wealth will arise for him .
In the immeasurable eons to come, a Master named Gotama, of the Okkāka clan, will appear in the world .
After dying from hell, that person will go to the human being, will become a relative of Brahma (Brahmin lineage) with the name Kolita .
Later, motivated by the element of purity, he or she will become a monk and will become the second Sravaka of the Blessed One Gotama.
Having made a diligent, determined effort, having reached the perfection of supernatural powers, after fully knowing all the taints, (one) will Nirvana without contraband ."
Depending on my evil friends, I was under the control of craving. With bad intentions, I killed both the mother and the father.
Wherever I go to be reborn, whether it's hell or human, because of being involved in bad karma I die with a broken head.
This last time of mine is the last existence in rotation. Even here, such a thing will happen at the time of my death.
Attached to solitude, delighting in the practice of samadhi, after thoroughly knowing all the taints, I live free from taints.
Having attained supernatural perfection, with my big toe I can shake even the infinitely deep, dense, indestructible earth.
I don't see my self, my conceit is not known, I show respect to novices.
As for the deed which I affirmed countless eons ago, I have accomplished that foundation, I have attained the cessation of taints.
396 – 398. My afflictions have been burned away, ―(as above)― I have practiced the teachings of the Buddha.
(Verse 396, 397, 398 are similar to verses 371, 372, 373).
The venerable thera Mahāmoggallāna thus uttered these verses.
The record of the elder Mahāmoggallāna is the second part.

3. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER MAHĀKASSAPA
When the Protector of the World Nirvana, I made such offerings to the Blessed One, Padumuttara, the Guru, the Supreme Being of the world.
With elated hearts, the people were joyful and rejoicing. While everyone was aroused, rapture arose in me.
I brought relatives and friends over and said these words: " The Great Hero has passed away, now let's make the offering ."
After replying: “ Good! We will carry out the accumulation of merit in the Buddha, the Protector of the World ,” and they generated more joy than I did.
They have set up a well-executed platform one hundred arms high,[5] stretching 150 arms, a palace that reaches up to the sky.
There, after performing the castle adorned with rows of palm trees, I purified my mind and made offerings to the supreme stupa.
The stupa illuminating the four directions looks like a mass of fire ignited, like a sālā tree in full bloom, like a rainbow of five colors in the air.
In that place, after having made my mind pure, after having done many good deeds, after remembering my past karma, I was reborn in the heavens.
I have made a vow that the means of transportation in heaven is a chariot drawn by a thousand animals. My towering castle is seven stories high.
There were 1,000 pointed roof houses made of gold. While illuminating in all directions, they shine with their aura.
At that time, there were also other pointed towers made of rubies. With a light source, they also illuminate the surrounding four directions.
The pointed roof houses have been revealed, have been born due to meritorious karma. Made of jade mani, they also illuminate the surrounding ten directions.
While they were shining, there was great light. I am superior to all the gods; this is the fruit of good karma.
For sixty thousand kalpas, I have been a kingslayer named Ubbiddha residing in the earth, a conqueror of the four directions.
Likewise, contented with my own karma, in my Bhadda life I became thirty times the mighty Wheel-turning King, accomplished the seven kinds of treasures, the lord of the world. four continents.
In the same place, my palace was raised like a rainbow, measuring twenty-four (do-weeks) long and twelve (do-weeks) wide.
The city called Rammaka with its gates and strong walls, five hundred (do-weeks) long and half its length, was crowded with throngs of people like the city of the realms. God.
Then the city is crowded like twenty-five needles put together in a needle-box, they collide with each other.
In the same way, my city is filled with elephants, horses, vehicles, always crowded with people; Rammaka is a wonderful city.
In that place, I ate, I drank, and returned to my divine being. In my last life, I obtained the achievement of the lineage.
Having been born into a Brahmin family with the accumulation of many jewels, I too gave up eighty gold koṭi and left home.
420 – 422. My afflictions have been burned away, ―(as above)― I have practiced the teachings of the Buddha.
The Venerable Mahākassapa uttered these verses thus.
The record of the elder Mahākassapa is the third part.

4. CHRONICLES OF ELDER ANURUDDHA
I have seen the World-Honored One Sumedha, the World's Most High, the Human Bull, the World Leader, who is resting in seclusion.
After going to see the Perfectly Enlightened One, the World Leader Sumedha, I folded my hands and made a request to the Supreme Buddha saying:
" Bai Dai Hung, the World's Most High, the Human Niu, I will offer the lamp to you who is meditating under the tree, please have mercy ."
The wise one, the noble Self among the preachers, accepted. At that time, I drilled through the trunks and attached the device.
I have offered to the Buddha, the relative of the world, a thousand lamp hearts. After burning for seven days, my lamps were extinguished.
Because of that purity of mind in my mind and due to the vows of my intention, after relinquishing my human body, I was born in the Heavenly Palace.
Having reached the being of the Celestial Beings, there is a palace that has been manifested to me, it illuminates the surroundings; this is the fruit of the offering of the lamp.
At that time, I shone around a hundred do-weeks, I surpassed all the gods; this is the fruit of the offering of the lamp.
I have been the Lord of the Gods who have ruled over the Heavenly Kingdom for thirty-three kalpas, and no one has looked down on me; this is the fruit of the offering of the lamp.
And I became a Wheel-turner twenty-eight times. Then I saw (in the distance) a do-week around by day and by night.
I saw a thousand worlds with wisdom in the Guru's Dharma, I attained the Divine Eye; this is the fruit of the offering of the lamp.
The Fully Enlightened One named Sumedha was thirty thousand kalpas ago. With a pure mind, I offered the lamp to him.
435 – 437. My afflictions have been burned away, ―(as above)― I have practiced the teachings of the Buddha.
The Venerable Anuruddha said these verses thus.
The record of the elder Anuruddha is the fourth part.

5. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER PUṆṆA
As a teacher, well versed in mantras, well versed in the three Vedas, I led my students to meet the Supreme Being.
The Knower of the World Padumuttara, the recipient of offerings, the Great Sage, briefly praised my work.
After listening to that Dhamma, I bowed down to the Guru. I put my hands together and went away, facing to the right.
After listening briefly, I gave a detailed lecture. After listening to my teaching, all the students were filled with joy.
After dispelling their wrong views, they made their minds pure in faith in the Buddha. I preached briefly, in much the same detail.
As someone who knows the direction of the Abhidhamma, is well versed in the topics of his teachings, after making it all clear to all, I live a life free of corruption.
Five hundred kalpas ago, there were four lords on the four continents who were extremely famous and accomplished seven kinds of treasures.
Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberation, and six superior wisdom have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha.
The Venerable Puṇṇa Mantāniputta said these verses thus.
The record of the elder Puṇṇa Mantāniputta is the fifth part.

6. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER UPĀLI
In the city of Haṃsavatī, a brahmin named Sujāta had an accumulation of eighty koṭi , rich in wealth and grain.
An instructor, well versed in mantras, well versed in the three Vedas, having attained perfection in appearance, in tradition, and in doctrine (of Brahmins).
At that time, the ascetics with a fire, the Sravakas of the Buddha Gotama, the wanderers, and also the ascetic ascetics traveled the earth.
They also accompanied me (supposedly): ' The brahmin is famous .' Many people honor me, I do not honor anyone.
I do not see one worthy of honor, then I am conceited and stubborn. Until the Conqueror appeared, there was no word ' Buddha .'
Days and nights passed, the Leader Padumuttara, the Right Eye, after dispelling all darkness, appeared in the world.
At the time when the Dharma was widely spread, widely known, and became popular, then the Buddha went to a city called Haṃsa.
At that time, for the sake of his father, the Buddha of the Right Eye preached the Dharma. At that time, the crowd around was a do-week.
Then, by agreement among everyone, that ascetic named Sunanda covered the entire assembly of the Buddha with flowers.
And while the Supreme Being was proclaiming the four Truths under a canopy of flowers, there was the reception of the Dharma by a hundred thousand koṭi .
The Buddha rained down the Dharma rain for seven days and nights. When the eighth day was reached, the Conqueror extolled the Sunanda, saying:
“ This person, while reincarnating in the realm of existence, whether in the world of gods or humans, will become the best among all and will reincarnate in the realms .
In a hundred thousand kalpas (later), a Master named Gotama, of the lineage, of the Okkāka clan, will appear in the world .
(This person) will become the Guru's Sravaka, the heir to that (Buddha)'s Dharma, the orthodox, created from the Dhamma, named Puṇṇo Mantāniputta ."
At that time, while making all the people rejoice, while displaying his own powers, the Fully Enlightened One thus praised the ascetic Sunanda.
The people joined hands to bow to the ascetic Sunanda (thinking): " After showing respect to the Buddha, he has purified his own rebirth realm ."
At that place, after listening to the words of the Wise, I had the reflection that: " I will show the same respect as I see the Gotama ."
After thinking like that, I reflected on my actions: “ What will I practice in the unsurpassed Phuoc Dien? ”
And this bhikkhu is the one who recites among all the reciters in the Dhamma, and has been chosen as the head of the Vinaya, I have aspired to that position.
This property of mine is immeasurable, unmovable like the sea. With that wealth, I built a monastery for the Buddha.
There is a garden called Sobhana on the east side of the city. After buying with one hundred thousand, I built the monastery for the Congregation.
After the pointed roofs, towers, roofs, buildings, caves, and passages were well established, I built the monastery for the Congregation.
After having built a sauna, a fire house, a well, and a bathhouse, I made offerings to the Assembly of Bhikkhus.
I have donated all of these (including) benches, stools, utensils, pots and pans, and medicine to the monastery.
Having established the protection, I built a strong wall, not allowing anything to disturb such pure-minded people.
I have built one hundred thousand dwellings in the monastery for the Congregation. After arranging all the facilities, I have devoted myself to the level of Perfect Enlightenment.
“ Sage, please accept the monastery that I have completed. White Hero, I will make offerings to You. White-eyed One, please accept ."
The Worldly Knower Padumuttara, the recipient of offerings, the Leader, after knowing my thoughts, approved.
After learning of the approval of the Great Hermit, the All-Knowing, having prepared the food, I announced the time.
When the time was announced, the Leader Padumuttara came to my monastery with a thousand delinquents.
Knowing that when He sat down, I satisfied Him with food and water. Knowing that when he had finished his meal, I said these words:
“ Sage, the monastery named Sobhana was purchased for a hundred thousand and was built for that size, please accept it .
By this monastic offering and by the vows of intention, may I, while born in the realm of existence, achieve what I have wished for ."
After receiving the monastery for the Order, which had been well built, the Fully Enlightened One sat down in the Order of Bhikkhus and uttered these words:
“ Whoever has offered a monastery for the well-built Congregation to the Buddha, I will praise him. People, listen to Me .
The elephants, the horses, the chariots, the soldiers and the army of the four branches would regularly escort the man; this is the fruit of the monastery (offering) for the Congregation .
Sixty thousand musical instruments and decorated large drums would frequently accompany this man; this is the fruit of the monastery (offering) for the Congregation .
Eighty-six thousand women were adorned, adorned with colorful fabrics, and studded with pearls and pearls.
With curved eyelashes, a smile, a graceful posture, a slim waist, the girls will often surround this person; this is the fruit of the monastery (offering) for the Congregation.
This person will rejoice in the world of the gods for thirty thousand kalpas, and will be the Lord of the gods who rules over the kingdom of heaven a thousand times.
(This person) will receive all that the Heavenly King can achieve, will have unfailing wealth, and will rule the Kingdom of Heaven .
(This person) will become a Wheel-turning King in the country a thousand times. The kingship of the earth is immense and cannot be measured in terms of numbers .
In a hundred thousand kalpas (later), a Master named Gotama, of the lineage, of the Okkāka clan, will appear in the world .
(This person) will become the Guru's sravaka, the heir to that (Buddha)'s Dhamma, the orthodox, created from the Dhamma, whose name is Upāli .
Having attained the perfection of the Law and become familiar with the establishment or the non-establishment (sin), while upholding the Conqueror's Dharma, (this person) will live free from taints .
Having known all this, the Noble Gotama of the Sakyas will sit down in the Order of Bhikkhus and will establish (this person) in the supreme position ."
My desire for Your Dharma has been immeasurable (aeons). (Now) you have reached that goal and have an end to all attachments.
Just as when tied to a spike, the man dreads the king's punishment, while finding no comfort in the spike longs only for release.
White Great Hero, likewise I fear the punishment of existence. While tied to the sharp stake of karmic retribution, I am troubled by the feeling of longing.
Burned by the three fires, I do not feel comfortable in being. Just like a person punished by a king, I seek deliverance.
Just as a person bitten by a venomous snake is tormented by the venom, so he may seek a remedy that is a way to dissipate the venom.
During the search it is possible to see the remedy as the object that dissipates the venom. After taking that medicine, he can have the peace of mind that comes from being freed from the venom.
The White Great Hero, similarly, tormented by ignorance, sought the remedy of the Dharma, like the man who was harmed by the venom (searched for the antidote).
While searching for the Dharma cure, I saw that Sakya's instruction as noble among all medicines, was the spitting up of all arrows.
After ingesting the Dharma remedy, I have cleansed all my poisons, I have reached Nirvana which is a state of coolness that does not grow old and does not die.
Just like a person who is disturbed by the devil, tormented by the devil, can find a demon healer to get rid of the devil.
During the search one can see a person familiar with the knowledge of the devil. He is able to eradicate demons for him and can destroy them at the root.
White Great Hero, likewise I am troubled by the penetration of darkness, I seek the light of wisdom for deliverance from darkness.
Now I have seen the Sakya sage who has purity in regard to darkness and afflictions. He has driven away my darkness, just like a demon healer drives away demons.
I have cut off the flow of samsara, stopped the stream of craving, and annihilated all existence from the root, like a demon healer.
Just as the human bird pounces on the snake as its own prey, it stirs up the surrounding great lake for a hundred yojanas.
After catching the snake, the human bird immediately hurt the bottom of the head (snake). After grabbing (the snake), it goes to the intended place.
In the same way, Great Hero, while seeking (Nirvana) is no longer created, I have cleansed all evils, just as a human bird has strength (seeing for prey). extermination).
I have seen the noble Dharma as the path of unsurpassed tranquility, I have grasped this and abided like a bird that grabs a snake and carries it away.
There is a type of vine called āsāvatī that is born in the forest of Cittalatāvana (in the Dao Loi heaven). For that kind of vine, a thousand years it produces one fruit.
The Devas are close to that vine until it bears fruit after a long time. Such superior āsāvatī vines are so beloved by the gods.
I am close to that Wise man up to a hundred thousand (five),[7] I bow in the morning and evening like the gods are close to the āsāvatī fruit .
Service is not fruitless and worship is not empty. Although I am going through (samsara) long and deep, the opportunity (of the Buddha's appearance) has not abandoned me.
While examining the realms, I do not see the continuation of rebirth. No more ground for rebirth, completely liberated, at peace, I go here and there.
White Great Hero, just as a lotus flower blooms by the rays of the sun, so I am sublimated by the Buddha's radiance.
As in the breeding of storks, males are never known, females are always conceived while the rains are howling.
Those female brown storks remain in the womb as long as the rain has not fallen. When the rain falls, they are released from their burdens.
Screamed by the Dharma rain of Buddha Padumuttara, I have assembled the Dharma fetus by the sound of the Dharma rain.
I carry the blessed fetus of one hundred thousand (kalpas),[8] I cannot be freed from the burden (samsara) until the rain of Dharma has roared.
White sage of the Sakya family, when you scream at the rain of Dharma in the lovely city of Kapilavatthu, I am liberated from the burden (samsara).
I became aware of emptiness, of formlessness, and likewise of desirelessness, of the four Fruitions and all dharmas.
(Second chant).
My wish for your Dharma has been immeasurable (aeons). (Now) I have reached that goal and the state of unsurpassed peace (Nirvana).
Just as the hermit (bhikkhu) is the one who recites, I have attained the perfection of the Vinaya, there is no equal to me, I uphold the Dharma.
Regarding the Discipline (Bhikkhus and Bhikkhunis), including the Component Rules (Major and Minor), in the manner divided into three parts and the fifth, I have no doubts here about letters or words. .
I am well versed in reprimand, on reparation, on the establishment or non-establishment of sin, on restoration (dignity), on remission of sin, I have attained spiritual perfection. every field.
After taking one thing from Law (Analysis) even from Partial Law, you can untangle both sets of Laws and explain the core thing.
I am extremely skillful in words and knowledgable about what is beneficial or unprofitable. There is nothing (the Law) that I am not aware of, I am one who has an attentiveness to the Dharma of the Master.
Now in the present moment, I dispel all doubts about the Sakya son's Dharma, I cut off all doubts.
I am well versed in sentences, even their dependencies, in letters, in words, in introductions, in endings, in all these areas.
Just as a powerful king can control and make it difficult for his enemies, after winning the war, he can build a city in that place.
(The King) can build walls, trenches, guard posts, gates, and many different types of watchtowers in the city.
In that place, (the king) could build crossroads, roundabouts, well-arranged market quarters, and meeting rooms to decide right or wrong.
The king appointed an army general with the task of destroying the enemies, to know the weaknesses and strengths to preserve the army.
For the purpose of preserving the goods, the king appointed a man skilled in storage as treasurer: " Do not lose my goods ."
Whoever is devoted to the king and wishes him to make progress, the king grants him the right to arbitrate to become his courtier.
The king appointed a teacher who was well versed in spells, knowledgeable about omens and phenomena that had arisen.
(The king) who meets these factors is called ' Kash-di '.' (The gods) always protect the king like a red goose always protects those who are suffering.
White Great Hero, similarly, he is called the " Dharma King " of the world, including the gods, like a king-slayer whose enemies have been defeated.
After defeating the pagans and also Mara with his army, after destroying that darkness, he built the city of Dharma.
White Wisdom, where precepts are the wall, His wisdom is the gate, His faith is the sentry, and restraint is the gatekeeper.
Bach, the sage, the establishment of mindfulness is the watchdog, his wisdom is the roundabout, and the foundation of miracles is the crossroads; The Dharma path has been well built.
The entire Sutra, the Abhidhamma, and also the Vinaya are the teachings of the Buddha, including nine categories; this is his Dharma conference room.
The abiding of no nature, the abiding of the signless, and the abiding of volition, (the four Fruits of the Sa-Mon) unshakable, and the extinction (Nirvana); this is his Dharma house.
The one named Sāriputta was chosen to be the head of wisdom, well-versed in eloquence, his Chief of the Dharma.
The White Sage, whose name is Kolita, skilled in samsara (compassion), has attained the perfection of supernatural powers as his priest.
The White Sage, the maintainer of the ancient tradition (Mahākassapa), of outstanding power, difficult to approach, the leader in virtue in dispelling dharmas, is his judge.
The Venerable One, the one named Ānanda who hears a lot (widely studied), holds the Dharma, has the complete recitation of the instructions, is the protector of his Dharma.
After going through all these, the Blessed One considered me and gave me a judgement on the Law taught by the Wise.
Whenever any of the sravakas of the Buddha asked a question about the Vinaya, I didn't need to think about it, I immediately explained the meaning of the question.
As far as the realm of the Buddhas, except for that Great Sage, there is no one equal to me in the Law, how can it be better?
Having sat down in the Order of Bhikkhus, Gotama affirmed thus: " There is no equal to the Upali in Discipline (Analysis) and the Components ."
As far as the Guru's Dhamma of nine types has been spoken by the Buddha, for one who realizes ' The Law is the foundation ' all (Dharma) are included in the Vinaya.
After recalling my work, the Noble Gotama of the Sakyas sat down at the Order of Bhikkhus and established me in the supreme position.
I have aspired to that position since a hundred thousand (kalpas), I have reached it, have reached the perfection of the Law.
Before, I was a barber who brought joy to the Sakyas. After leaving that birth, I became the son of the Great Hermit.
Two kalpas ago, the protector of the earth was a kingslayer named Añjasa who had boundless power, had immeasurable fame, and great wealth.
As the son of that king, I am the king-king named Candana. I have relied on pride of birth and pride in fame and fortune.
One hundred thousand mātaṅga dragons (of age) abstinent in three places, adorned with all kinds of ornaments, always accompanied me.
At that time, accompanied by my soldiers, who were interested in roaming the garden, I rode on the elephant Sirika and left the city.
The Buddha's name Devala[9], full of character, with protected, well-closed senses, went in front of me.
At that time, I urged the elephant Sirika and attacked the Buddha. Therefore, the elephant got angry and refused to lift his paw.
After seeing the elephant with a disgruntled mind, I expressed anger towards the Buddha. After giving the Buddha trouble, I went to the garden.
I found no comfort there like my head was on fire, I was burned with frustration like a fish caught in a hook.
It happened to me like the earth was on fire to the seashore, I went to my father and said these words:
“ Your attack on the Self is like an angry viper, like an approaching mass of fire, like an elephant with passive training .
The Buddha, the Conqueror whose austerity was outstanding, was attacked by me. Before we all perish, let us ask the sage for forgiveness .
You are the one whose self has been trained to be calm, if we don't get his forgiveness, my country will be destroyed within seven days .
(Kings) Sumekhala, Kosiya, Siggava, and even Sattuko, after attacking the hermits, they, along with the inhabitants of the land, suffered .
When the hermits, who have restrained themselves, have practiced the holy life, become angry, they destroy the world, the seas and the mountains, and the gods ."
I summoned men within the range of three thousand do-weeks, and I went to the Lord with the intention of repenting of my sins.
All of them had wet clothes and wet hair with their hands clasped together. After kneeling at the feet of the Buddha, they spoke these words:
" Bai Dai Hung, the people begged him, please forgive him, ask him to banish their anger, please don't destroy our country ."
“ May all humans and gods and giants and demons break my head with an iron mallet at all times .”
(The Buddha replied): " Fire does not exist in water, seed does not grow in rock, worm does not exist in medicine, anger does not arise in Buddha .
Just as the earth is immovable, the sea is immeasurable, and space is infinite, so the buddhas are unwavering .
The Great Heroes are always patient, the ascetic always forgive. For those of you who have patiently forgiven, there is no way to get angry .”
Having said this, while dismissing his frustration, the Buddha then flew up into the air in front of the crowd.
White wisdom, because of that karma I have come to the lower being. Having overcome that fate myself, I entered the fearless city (Nirvana).
Bach Dai Hung, it was also at that time that I begged the Master for forgiveness and he took away the anger that was burning me, which was firmly established in me.
Great Hero, today too while I was being consumed by three fires, You extinguished the three flames and helped me reach a state of coolness.
If you have an interest in listening, listen while I am speaking. I will explain to you the meaning of how I have seen the status (Nirvana).
After having despised the Self-Sovereign, who had such a calm, centered mind, because of that karma today I was born into a lowly lineage.
Don't let the opportunity pass because when the opportunity has passed you will be sad. You should be diligent for your own benefit, opportunities will come to you.
And (Dharma) for some it is vomiting, for some it is stomachache, for some it is a deadly poison and for some it is a cure.
It is vomiting for those who are practicing, it is a bowel movement for those who have reached Fruition, it is a remedy for those who have achieved Fruition, it is Phuoc Dien for those seeking.
Just as the poison is deadly (harmful) to those who are enemies of the Dharma, so the venomous snake of wrong view burns the man.
Taken once, the deadly poison puts an end to life. The person who is hostile to the Dharma is burned for one koṭi (ten million) kalpas.
Through patience, non-harm, and practice of loving-kindness, the Buddha helped the world, including the devas, to overcome; so you should not be hostile.
The Buddhas are equivalent to the earth, They are not attached to gain or loss, to respect or disrespect; so you should not be hostile.
In the case of the vandal Devadatta, the robber Aṅgulimāla, the elephant Dhanapāla, and (the son) Rahula, the Wise One is equal to all.
They have no grievances, they do not know attachment. The Buddha is equal to all, to the destroyer as well as to his own son.
After seeing on the road his robes were strewn with cow dung, he folded his hands above his head and paid homage to the symbol of the Hermit.
The Buddhas of the past, present, and future are purified by this symbol, so they are worthy of homage.
Good Discipline is regarded as the Guru, I uphold the Law with my heart. While respecting the Law, I will always abide.
The Law is my inclination, the Law is my foothold and path, I arrange my residence in the Law, and the Law is my practice.
I have attained the perfection of the Law and am also well versed in the methods of settlement (of litigation). White Great Hero, Upāli prostrated at the feet of His Holiness the Guru.
While paying homage to the Fully Enlightened One and the beautiful nature of the Dharma, I will travel from village to village, from city to city.
My afflictions have been burned away, all existences have been erased, all defilements have been eradicated, now there is no more rebirth.
Indeed, I have succeeded perfectly, have attained the three wisdoms, have practiced the teachings of the Buddha in the present time of the supreme Buddha.
Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberation, and six superior wisdom have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha.
The Venerable Upāli said these verses thus.
The record of the elder Upāli is the sixth part.

7. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER AÑÑĀKOṆḌAÑÑA
(This is) for the first time I have seen the Fully Enlightened Padumuttara, the World Elder, the Guide, who has reached the ground of the Enlightened One.
Until all the yakshas have gathered at the Bodhi tree. They surrounded and put their hands up to pay homage to the Perfectly Enlightened One.
With joyful minds, all those gods moved here and there in the air (saying): " This Buddha has come to dispel the darkness of night ."
Overwhelmed with joy, they let out a loud voice, saying, " We will burn away the afflictions in the Dharma of the Fully Enlightened One ."
Recognizing the spoken voices of the Devas, I became overjoyed. With a joyful mind I offered my first meal (to the Buddha).
After knowing my intention, the worldly Supreme Master sat down at the assembly of gods and uttered these verses:
“ After leaving for seven days, I attained Enlightenment. This is my first meal, the body's nourishment for the practice of the holy life .
For whoever comes here from the heaven of Dat Sau and has offered Me food, I will glorify him. Please listen to Me.
He will rule over the heavenly kingdom for thirty thousand kalpas. Having surpassed all the gods, he will reside in the heavenly realm .
After passing away from the world of the gods, he will go to the human nature, who is the Wheel-turning King who rules the land there a thousand times .
In a hundred thousand kalpas (later), a Master named Gotama, of the lineage, of the Okkāka clan, will appear in the world .
After his death from heaven, he will go to the human being. After leaving home, he will live six years (ascetic) .
Then in the seventh year the Buddha will preach the Truth. The one named Koṇḍañña will realize first .”
I have ordained as a follower (Bodhisattva) who has left (family). Diligence was well demonstrated by me. For the purpose of burning away my afflictions, I have ordained into a life of homelessness.
The All-Knowing, the Buddha in the world including the gods, came to Isināma in the Deer Park, and struck the Immortal Drum.
Now, I have attained the state of Immortal, pure, unsurpassed. After thoroughly knowing about all piracy, I live free of contraband.
617 – 619. My afflictions have been burned away, ―(as above)― I have practiced the teachings of the Buddha.
The venerable thera Aññākoṇḍañña uttered these verses thus.
The record of the elder Aññākoṇḍañña is the seventh part.

8. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER PIṆḌOLABHĀRADVĀJA
At that time, the Conqueror named Padumuttara, the Sovereign, the great being, dwelt at Cittakūṭa (the peak of Mount Citta) in front of the Himalayas.
In that place, I was (the lion) the king of beasts with a mighty physique that roamed the four directions. Many people panicked after hearing its roar.
After taking the well-bloomed lotus, I approached the Human Niu and presented it to the Buddha (when he) had come out of samadhi.
After bowing to the Supreme Buddha, the Supreme Being from the four directions, I made my mind pure and then let out the roar of a lion.
The World Wise One, Padumuttara, who received the offerings, sat down in his seat and uttered these verses:
Recognizing the Buddha's voice, all the gods gathered (saying): " The chief among the preachers has come, we will listen to his Dharma ."
The Ruler of the World, the Great Sage with a vision of the distant future, extolled my faith in the presence of those joy-filled Devas saying:
“ Whoever has offered this lotus flower and has bellowed the roar of a lion, I will praise him. People, listen to Me .

9. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER KHADIRAVANIYAREVATA
The Gaṅgā River, called Bhāgīrathī, originates from the Himalayas. I have been a rower at the treacherous pier, and on this shore I rowed (to the other).
I have heard before that the Leader Padumuttara will cross the river with one hundred thousand able beings.
After assembling many boats, I made a roof skillfully prepared by carpenters on (one) boat, and then waited for the Taurus.
And the All-Enlightened One came and got on that boat. Standing in the middle of the water, the Master uttered these verses:
“ Whoever has brought the Perfectly Enlightened One and the Assumption to the other shore, because of that pure faith in his heart, (this person) will be happy in the world of the gods .
There will be a skillfully constructed boat-shaped palace born for you. There will be a canopy of flowers that will be maintained in the air at all times .
Fifty-eight kalpas later, (this person) will be the King of Kings named Tāraka, the Wheel-turning King who has conquered the four directions .
Fifty-seven kalpas later, (this person) will be a kingslayer named Campaka who has great power and will shine like the rising sun .
In a hundred thousand kalpas (later), a Master named Gotama, of the lineage, of the Okkāka clan, will appear in the world .
After dying from heaven, that person will go to the human being and will become a relative of Brahma (Brahman lineage) with the name Revata .
Motivated by the element of purity, (this person) after leaving home will be ordained in the Dhamma of the Blessed One Gotama .
After leaving the home life, he will later be a Vipassana practitioner with intimate attachment. After knowing all about all the taints, he will Nirvana, no more contraband ."
I have the diligence, the ability to carry out duties that are a condition for security from attachments. I maintain my last life in the Dharma of the Fully Enlightened One.
The work done in one hundred thousand kalpas has allowed me to see the fruit here. Like the speed of a well-shot arrow, I have burned through my afflictions.
Then, seeing me enjoying myself in the forest, the Wise One, who had gone to the end of the world, the Great Wisdom proclaimed me the chief among the forest-dwelling bhikkhus.
Four analytical (wisdom), ―nt― I have practiced the Buddha's teaching.
The Venerable Khadiravaniya Revata spoke these verses thus.
The Chronicles of the Elder Khadiravaniya Revata is the ninth part.

10. CHRONICLES OF THE ELDER NANDA
After leaving the monastery gate, the Great Sage Padumuttara, while pouring rain of the Immortal Rain, helped the crowd to reach Nirvana.
Those one hundred thousand heroes possessing six superpowers, possessing great divine power, accompanying the Perfectly Enlightened One like a shadow without separation (pictured).
I have sat on the elephant (holding) the supreme noble white parasol. After seeing the extremely polite figure, I had happiness arise.
Climbing down from the elephant, I have come close to the level of the Taurus. I took up my jeweled parasol over the Supreme Buddha.
Having learned of my intention, the Great Being, Padumuttara, stopped that discourse and uttered these verses:
“ Whoever holds a parasol adorned with golden ornaments, I will exalt him. People, listen to Me .
From this place, this man will reside in the heaven of Dat Sut and will enjoy success and be respected by fairies .
(This person) will rule the Kingdom of Heaven thirty-four times, will be the ruler of the armies who will dwell on the earth for one hundred and eight lifetimes.
(This person) will become the Wheel-turning One fifty-eight times and will rule over the vast kingdom territory on earth.
In a hundred thousand kalpas (later), a Master named Gotama, of the lineage, of the Okkāka clan, will appear in the world.
Named Ānanda (this person) will be relatives and relatives, will become the attendant of the Great Hermit who is the symbol of the Sakya clan .
(This person) will have enthusiasm, and also be careful, be well-versed in many truths, behave humbly, not be callous, have total recitation .
Having the affirmation of effort, being at peace, free from the germ of rebirth, (this person) after fully knowing all the taints, will be nirvana, free from taints ."
The elephants living in the forest are mātaṅga elephants (of age) abstinent in three places, sixty years old, with tusks like plowshares, which are the king's means of transportation.
Hundreds of thousands of them are also wise and possess great divine power, all of which are incomparable to the Statue of King Buddha.
I bow in the first watch, in the middle watch, and in the last watch. With a pure mind, with a joyful mind, I served the Supreme Buddha.
I have enthusiasm, and also carefulness, self-awareness, mindfulness (full), have attained Stream-entry, and well-versed in the foundations of the Learned.
The fact that I asserted action a hundred thousand kalpas ago, I accomplished that foundation, I was able to exist, to be motionless in the Dharma.
Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberation, and six superior wisdom have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha.
