After paying homage to the Fully Enlightened One, I uttered this verse: 2884. I have lifted the nigguṇḍī flower and have placed it on the lion throne of the Buddha Padumuttara, the Lord of men, the Guru. 2885. After all the people came together to see the supreme flower (saying): " Who has offered this flower to the supreme Buddha like that? ” 2891. Because of that pure faith in my heart, I was born in the realm of Hoa Lac Thien. I enjoy my karma well done by myself in the past. 2892. Wherever I go to be reborn, whether I am a divine person or a human being, I am a beloved object of all; this is the fruit of the flower offering. 2893. I do not know of (what) defamation has been done by me in body, in words, or in mind towards the ascetic ascetics who have subdued themselves. 2894. Because it has been well practiced and because of the aspirational powers of the mind, I am the object of offerings by all; this is the fruit of not defamation. 2895. (Since) I have offered flowers thirty-one kalpas ago, I no longer know suffering; this is the fruit of making offerings to the Buddha. 2896. As an heir to that (Buddha)'s Dharma, orthodox, created from the Dharma, (he) will know comprehensively about all defilements and will attain Nirvana without contraband ." 2916. Understanding the majestic words that were uttered as the words of the Buddha, with a pure heart, with a joyful mind, I aroused abundant joy. 2917. After giving up my human body, I went to the heavenly race. There is the ultimate pleasing castle that has been born for me. 2918. While (I) was leaving the palace, a white parasol was kept (covered me). Then I attained remembrance; This is the fruit of past karma. 2919. That fragrant incense is covered with (scent of) jasmine flowers and is consistent with the Buddha. 2932. The All-Enlightened One, the World Leader, is like a golden pillar, like a bright water lily, like a burning sacrificial fire. 2933. Like a majestic and noble tiger, like a noble born lion, he sat down in front of the Assembly of noble monks among the Sa-Mons. 2934. After seeing it, I calmed my mind and put my hands together. I scooped up water with my hand and threw it into the air. The Great Hero, the Buddha, the Compassionate One, the Hermit accepted. 2939. Standing in the air, the master named Padumuttara, after knowing my intention, uttered this verse: 2940. " Because of the offering of this water and the arising of rapture, you will not be reborn in a miserable state for a hundred thousand kalpas ." 2941. White Lord of mankind, the Most High of the world, the Human Niu, by doing so, after giving up superiority and loss, I have attained the position of Immovable. 2942. I was a grass bearer in the city of Haṃsavatī. I make a living by carrying grass. Thanks to that, I raised the children. 2950. The Conqueror named Padumuttara is the master of all dharmas. After dispelling that darkness, the World Leader appeared. 2951. After sitting down at my house, at that time I thought like this: “ The Buddha has appeared in the world, and I don't have anything worthy of offering . 2952. This is my only cloak. I don't have any sponsors. The contact with hell is miserable. I will cultivate offerings .” 2953. After thinking like that, I made my mind pure. I took the unique cloth and made an offering to the supreme Buddha. 2954. After offering the unique cloth, I loudly said: " Venerable Hero, Great Wise One, if you are a Buddha, please help me get over it ." 2955. The Knower of the World Padumuttara, the recipient of offerings, while praising my offering, spoke to me with rejoicing: 2956. “ Due to this unique cloth and due to the aspirational forces of volition, (this person) does not go to the lower realms for a hundred thousand kalpas . 2957. (This person) will be the Lord of the Gods who will rule over the Heavenly Kingdom thirty-six times and will be the Wheel-turning-King thirty-three times . 2958. The kingdom's territory was vast, beyond measure. During reincarnation you will exist in the world of gods or in humans . 2959. Having beauty, full of virtue, having a body that does not fall short, you will attain indestructible, immeasurable fabric, as desired .” 2960. Having said this, the Fully Enlightened One named Padumuttara, the Wisdom one, rose into the air like a king swan in the sky. 2961. Wherever I go to be reborn, whether I am divine or human, I have no shortage of wealth; this is the fruit of a cloth. 2962. Cloth appears to me with each turn of the foot. I stood on the cloth below, with the visor above me. 2963. And on this day, if I wanted to, I could cover the sky with fabrics, including the jungle and the mountains. 2964. Thanks to that one piece of cloth, while incarnating in this realm and in another realm, I obtained a bright yellow skin color, and then I reincarnated in this world. 2965. The fruit of a cloth has not gone to ruin anywhere. This is my last birth, (that accomplishment) is ripe for me even here. 2966. Since I have offered the cloth a hundred thousand aeons ago, I have no longer known suffering; this is the fruit of a cloth. 2967. My afflictions have been burned, all existences have been erased. After breaking the bondage as a male elephant (untied), I lived free of lust. 2968. Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberations, and six winning positions have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha. The Venerable Elder Ekadussadāyaka [34] spoke these verses thus. The record of the elder Ekadussadāyaka is the fourth part. --ooOoo-- 335. Chronicles of Elder Phusitakampiya 2969. At that time, the Fully Enlightened One named Vipassī, the world's Chief Elder, the Human Bull, accompanied by the Unscrupulous ones, dwelt at the monastery of the Congregation. 2970. Then the World Leader Vipassī and eight hundred thousand Unscrupulous ones came out from the monastery gate. 2971. As the one who wears goatskin clothes and also the one who wears bark clothes, I took the water of the kusumbha flower and went near the Perfect Enlightenment. 2972. After having calmed my mind, filled with excitement, raised my hands, I took the water of the kusumbha flower and sprinkled it on the Buddha. 2973. Due to that work, the Fully Enlightened One named Padumuttara praised my work, then left as intended. 2974. Since I have offered five thousand drops (water), I have (became the Heavenly King) ruled the Kingdom of Heaven exactly two thousand five hundred kalpas. 2975. I have been a Wheel-turner exactly two thousand five hundred kalpas. With residual karma, I have attained the status of Arahant. 2976. At the time when I was the Heavenly King, at the time when I was the ruler of mankind, my name was Phusita, that very name belongs to me. 2977. While being a God as well as being a human, the rain fell like a trickle around me at an arm's length. 2978. My rebirths have been destroyed, my afflictions have been burned, all gonorrhea have been eradicated; this is the fruit of the drop of water. 2979. The scent emanating from my body is like that of frankincense. My fragrance from my body radiates (distance) half a kosa . [35] 2980. As a person with good karma emitting a heavenly fragrance, everyone after smelling the scent knew that Phusita had come here. 2981. The twigs, the leaves, the twigs, and also all the grasses, according to my intention, had their fragrance borne in an instant. 2982. (Since) I have offered incense before a hundred thousand kalpas, I no longer know the suffering scene; this is the fruit of the drop of water. 2983. Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberations, and six winning positions have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha. The Venerable Venerable Phusitakampiya uttered these verses thus. The record of the elder Phusitakampiya is the fifth part. --ooOoo-- 336. Chronicles of the Elder Pabhaṅkara 2984. The stupa of the World Honored One, Padumuttara, such a worldly Chief, lived in a forest crowded with wild animals. 2985. No one dared to go to pay respects to the stupa. Covered with grass, trees, and vines, the stupa collapsed. 2986. At that time, I was a woodworker following the profession of my father and grandfather. I have seen the ruined stupa, crisscrossed with grass and vines in the forest. 2987. After seeing the stupa of the Buddha, I established a reverent mind that: " This is the stupa of the supreme Buddha, it has collapsed and still exists in the forest . 2988. It's not right, it's not right for someone who knows what's right! Let's clean up the stupa of the Buddha and then take care of other things ." 2989. After clearing the grass, trees, and vines from the stupa, I bowed eight times and bowed down to leave. 2990. Because that work was done well and due to the aspirational forces of intention, after renouncing the human body, I went to the Dao Loi heaven. 2991. There was in that place a very brilliant golden palace which had been skillfully constructed for me, sixty yojanas in height and thirty yojanas in width. 2992. I have ruled the Heavenly Kingdom three hundred times. And I have been a Wheel-turner twenty-five times. 2993. While in samsara in this realm and in the world, I gain great wealth, I have no shortage of wealth; this is the fruit of clearing (the stupa). 2994. When I was moving in a palanquin, on an elephant's back in the forest, wherever I went, the forest had help. 2995. Attached to good karma, stumps or even thorns that I can't see with my eyes, are removed by themselves. 2996. And leprosy, boils, eczema, epilepsy, scabies, sores, itching do not happen to me; this is the fruit of clearing (the stupa). 2997. Another extraordinary thing for me when the stupa was cleared is that I was unaware of the tumor growing in my body. 2998. Another extraordinary thing for me when the stupa was cleared is that I reincarnated in two realms, in the divine and human natures. 2999. Another extraordinary thing for me when the stupa was cleared was that I had a bright yellow skin color, with light emanating everywhere. 3000. Another extraordinary thing for me when the stupa was cleared was that the discomfort disappeared and pleasure came into being. 3001. Another extraordinary thing for me when the stupa was cleared was that my mind was clean, attentive, well-composed. 3002. Another extraordinary thing for me when the stupa was cleared is that after sitting in that very seat I attained the status of arahant. 3003. Since I did that one hundred thousand eons ago, I no longer know the suffering; This is the fruit of cleaning. 3004. Four analytical (wisdom) analysis, eight liberation, and six winning positions have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha. The Venerable Pabhaṅkara said these verses thus. The record of the elder Pabhaṅkara is the sixth part. --ooOoo-- 337. Chronicles of the Elder Tiṇakuṭidāyaka 3005. I was an employee in the city of Bandhumatī. I get caught up in taking care of other people's affairs and (living) dependent on other people's food. 3006. After going to a secluded place and sitting down, at that time I thought like this: " The Buddha has appeared in the world and my upward action is absent ." 3007. Time to clear the realm of rebirth, the opportunity has been arranged for us. The contact with hell is painful for beings who are truly without merit .” 3008. After thinking like that, I went to see the employer. After asking for a day's work, I went into the forest. 3009. At that time, I brought grass, trees, and vines. After erecting three sticks, I made the tent out of grass. 3010. After consecrating that small tent for the benefit of the Congregation, I returned that same day and went to see the employer. 3011. Since that karma was well done, I went to the Dao Loi heaven. Due to (the fruit of the offering) the little grass hut, there was manifest a skillfully constructed palace for me. 3012. (That Palace) there were a thousand areas, there were a hundred round spheres decorated with flags, made with green color, there were a hundred thousand pointed towers that were present in my palace. 3013. Wherever I go to be reborn, whether I am a celestial or a human being, there is a castle present next to it just as I intended. 3014. Fear, or trance, or trepidation is not known, I do not know my trembling; this is the fruit of the little grass tent. 3015. Lions, tigers, leopards, bears, wolves, hyenas, all stay away from me; this is the fruit of the little grass tent. 3016. Reptiles and demons, and serpents, evil spirits, and demons, also keep away from me; this is the fruit of the little grass tent. 3017. I don't remember when I had bad dream visions (when), my thoughts existed; this is the fruit of the little grass tent. 3018. Only thanks to a small grass hut, I enjoyed success, I attained the Dharma of the World-Honored One, Gotama. 3019. Since I have done that work ninety-one kalpas ago, I have no longer known suffering; this is the fruit of the little grass tent. 3020. Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberations, and six winning positions have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha. The Venerable Elder Tiṇakuṭidāyaka [36] spoke these verses thus. The record of the elder Tiṇakuṭidāyaka is the seventh part. --ooOoo-- 338. Chronicles of the Elder Uttareyyadāyaka 3021. At that time, in the city of Haṃsavatī I was a Brahmin, an instructor, well versed in mantras, well versed in the three Vedas. 3022. I am a person of descent, well-educated, respected by my students. At that time, I went out of the city for the purpose of water baptism. 3023. The Conqueror named Padumuttara is the master of all dharmas. Accompanied by a thousand Immortals, the Conqueror entered the city. 3024. I have seen one whose body is so elegant as to have been created by the absence of desire, accompanied by Arahants. After seeing it, I made my mind clear. 3025. I have clasped my hands at my head and bowed to the one with good practice. With pure faith, with joy in mind, I offered the robe. 3026. After lifting with both hands, I threw up the shawl. Wherever the assembly of the Buddha stood, the cloth covered that place. 3027. At that time, while making a cover for the large Sangha of monks, etc.. going for alms, (the cloak) stood still, making me happy. 3028. While I was coming out of the house, the Self, the great man, the Guru, standing at the roadway, spoke to me with joy, saying: 3029. “Whosoever with a pure heart, with a glad heart, has offered Me a robe, I will praise him. People, listen to Me . 3030. (He) will rejoice in the world of the gods for thirty thousand kalpas, and will be the Lord of the gods who will rule over the heavenly kingdom fifty times . 3031. People who have good karma, while living in the world of gods, will have a cloth cover around one hundred do-weeks . 3032. And (he) will become the Wheel-turning-King thirty-six times. The kingdom's territory was vast, incalculable . 3033. Those who have good karma, while reincarnating in the right realm, will immediately achieve all the wishes in their hearts . 3034. This man shall obtain cloths made of silk, of wool, of linen, and of high-value cotton . 3035. This man will achieve all his wishes in mind and will enjoy the fruition of (offering) a piece of cloth at all times . 3036. Later, motivated by the element of purity, he will become ordained and will attain the Dharma of the Blessed One Gotama .” 3037. Oh well done my work to the All-Knowing, the Great Hermit. After offering a robe, I attained Immortal status. 3038. While I live under a roof, at the base of a tree, or in an empty house, a cloth cover is maintained at an arm's length around me. 3039. I use medicine and supplies not by suggestion of begging, I have success in food and water; this is the treasure of the mantle. 3040. Since I did that one hundred thousand kalpas ago, I no longer know the suffering; this is the fruit of the offering of the cloth. 3041. Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberations, and six winning positions have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha. The Venerable Thera Uttareyyadāyaka [37] uttered these verses thus. The record of the elder Uttareyyadāyaka is the eighth part. --ooOoo-- 339. Chronicles of the Elder Dhammasavaṇiya 3042. The Conqueror named Padumuttara, who is knowledgeable about all dharmas, while proclaiming the four Truths, has helped many people to overcome. 3043. At that time, I was a braided-haired ascetic with extreme austerity. Then I moved in the air, (walking) waving the clothes made of bark. 3044. I cannot move above the supreme Buddha. At that time, like a bird hit by a rock, I did not gain mobility. 3045. This deterioration of majesty has never happened to me before. Like a person floating on water, I (usually) move in the air like that. 3046. “ There must be someone of noble nature sitting down there. Huh! We will find out about this. At least we can get the cause .” 3047. While descending from the air, I heard the voice of the Master teaching about impermanence, which I then learned. 3048. Having learned the contemplation of impermanence, I went to my hermitage. After living to the end of my life, I ended up living there. 3049. As I was at the end, I recalled listening to that Dharma. Since that karma was well done, I went to the Dao Loi heaven. 3050. I have been happy in the world of the gods for thirty thousand kalpas. And I have ruled the Kingdom of Heaven fifty-one times. 3051. And I have been a Wheel-turner seventy-one times. The kingdom's territory was vast, and could not be measured in terms of numbers. 3052. After sitting down at his father's house, the sensuous recluse was trained to, while explaining the verse, mentioned impermanence. 3053. While reincarnating in this realm and in another, I do recall that thought (about impermanence), (but) I (did) not grasp the essential point of Nirvana, the Immortal status. 3054. " Indeed, the conditioned dharmas are impermanent, there are dharmas arising and passing away, after being born they perish, their silence is peaceful ." [38] 3055. After listening to the verse, I recalled my past deeds. After sitting in that very seat, I attained the status of Arahant. 3056. At the age of seven from birth, I attained the rank of Arahant. After realizing (my) virtue, the Buddha, the One with Right Eye, allowed him to become a monk. 3057. While just a boy, I finished what I needed to do. Today, what else do I need to do in the Sakya son's Dharma? 3058. Since I did that one hundred thousand kalpas ago, I no longer know the suffering; (this) is the fruit of listening to the Dharma. 3059. Four (wisdom) analysis, eight liberations, and six winning positions have been (I) attained; I have been practicing the teachings of the Buddha. Venerable Venerable Dhammasavaṇiya [39] uttered these verses like that. The record of the elder Dhammasavaṇiya is the ninth part. --ooOoo-- 340. Chronicles of the Elder Ukkhittapadumiya 3060. I was a garland maker in the city of Haṃsavatī. I waded into the lotus pond and picked lotus flowers. 3061. The Conqueror named Padumuttara, the master of all dharmas, along with a hundred thousand of such peaceful minds. 3062. At that time, while heeding my evolution, he, along with the pure, six-wisdom defilements, came to my place. 3063. After seeing the God of the gods, the Self-Controlling One, the World Leader, I then plucked the lotus flower from the stem and threw it into the air. 3064. "Venerable Sir, if you are the Buddha, the World's Most High, the Human Niu, may the lotuses come and stay on the crown of your head by themselves ." 3065. The Great Hung, the World's Most High, the Human Niu, made a vow. Due to the Buddha's majesty, they have remained at the crown of the head. 3066. Because that karma was well done and due to the aspirational forces of intention, after renouncing the human body, I went to the Dao Loi heaven. 3067. There's a cleverly constructed palace for me. It is called “ Satapattaṃ ” and has a height of sixty do-weeks and a width of thirty do-weeks. 3068. I have been the Lord of the Gods ruling over the Kingdom of Heaven a thousand times. And I became a Wheel-turner seventy-five times. 3069. The kingdom's territory was vast, incalculable in terms of numbers. I enjoy my karma, (which is karma) well done by myself in the past. 3070.
